Hey guys, thinking of doing a live stream at some point. I hope my computer is fast enough to record itself... But yeah, we'll see how it goes, I will post up a notice as soon as i get it set up!
Or bettter yet, Maybe someone could submit an art for me to critique? I dunno, what do you think?

Cheers!
R
Hey guys, I am currently trying to get my set up right for a teaching course I am trying to run. Is there any particular area you'd want me to cover?

I will be planning this out, and it is going to be a paid program where I mentor you and give you personal feedback, just like how most online courses work.

I have been teaching for a while locally and at work, so now I would like to broaden it out to the Internet and to you guys! I would like to help people improve so that they could get an entry level knowledge of how to break in today's industry.

Let me know your suggestions, thanks!

I will be with you soon!

[UPDATE]

Hey guys, I was just reading through some of your comments. First of all, thank you! They were really helpful, and I can now set up a structure around the topics you have provided.

So here is the list as follows:

Cell Shading
Painting
Anatomy
Backgrounds

As a graduate of animations, I have learned all of those from Uni, and have also developed through out the years working independently and in the industry. Whilst I have done courses online as well such as Schoolism, (I have seen about 5 of those courses and how its run) They only cover 1 topic. The same with the CG hub courses.

If I were to cover the topics above, the course is going to be intensive and it will be for serious learners! Just like existing courses online, I will be doing a section per week and set a homework that should last the rest of the week and after all homeworks are submitted by the end of the week, I will critique them individually for each person.

Obviously people will be in different levels, so I will cater to what they need. This feedback will be in a form of video where the other students will also have access to their classmate's feedback in order to see different critiques.
I have been looking at pricing and courses that only do 1 specific thing cost about $600-$1000. So, I will try to match the price range considering I cover more things. It is likely to be about 700$ and only 600$ if you recommend a friend.
This way, you are getting more for your money!

I think I will only take 15 students at a time, and later on expand so more people can join.

At the mean time, I will try and sort out the structure, and a website that will cover all of this.

I hope you guys are interested and I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you all!
Hey guys, just an update journal because some people ask me if I'm in any of the networking sites. Answer to that is; yes I am. But if you addme on Facebook, please don't be offended if I reject you. It's just that Facebook is a more personal website haha.

Anyway, here are some of my IDs

I have been instagraming a few times lately! So if you've got an account, I could follow you back :)

More stuff to be posted soon! Sorry I have been super busy, I am currently working on the new bejewelled game soon to be released later this month. Our company also just released the first game app on Facebook that uses real money to play, it's been all over the news. It's called "friendzy" if you fancy looking it up.

That's all for now, ta!
Hey guys!

Thanks for the birthday messages! I had a great time during the day.

Anyway, small news, just a heads up following up on the previous journal entry, I will be back this weekend to work on stuff, so expect plenty of posts from me! in the mean time, I have posted some character designs that I have done at work on my Behance portfolio. Go check them out here: [link]

See you guys soon!
Hey guys, just a heads up, I have booked the second week off work so I can work on commissions and post all of them :)
hopefully that would be an active week for me :D

Some people have been asking me what games have I been working on; Not sure if you guys have seen it before but I posted an image of an alien?
I had to take it down because the game is not released yet, but its going to be a facebook game. I also just worked on a slot machine game with an underwater atlantic setting.
And now, I am actually the designer working on the new Bejewled Cascade game (not sure if you guys play bejeweled blitz on facebook).
I am also working on a minigame that goes on our website's chat screen called; Whack a bird, where you whack black birds that come out a pie. (it looks like cooking Mam-ish)
They're all flash based, but as a designer, just to let you know, you have to create all the assets for it... So its quite a handful. But Im getting there!

Thats about it,
I will see you guys soon!

Also, Legend of Korra is finished; Thoughts?
I personally thought this series was a lot weaker than the old ones. Its too fast paced, and not much character development, theres a lot of big things happening, but then were endede in the following episodes.
But the ideas and concepts on the otherhand, great!
So sorry for the lack of update guys.
I just cant keep up at the moment due to work... I have been working on two games at the moment and the pressure is a bit heavy... I cant even find time to go out etc.
I will be responding to emails very soon. Sorry about that and my sincerest apologies to :iconroyallycrimson:.
Im just trying my best to do well at work because im still a junior position and I basically had no weekend free to work on my own stuff (dying!)

I promise I wont fail to deliver! You have my word.

I will post all of the stuff soon. I have been working on them but I just have to keep post poning due to work load. I will take a break from work soon, so ill see you guys soon!
Hey guys, I'm just wondering if anyone out there is in search of a good table? Immselling mine for £100. I had this since it came out, and if anyone wants a novelty item from me? Haha my actual tool of trade to create my digital paintings!

Btw it's A6. The smallest. They're quite expensive to get hold of.
Hey guys, me and a friend are planning to start an online course, I will be teaching Photoshop Basics of painting and he may be teaching caricature and painting. I've had the opportunity to teach some schools and museums last year and was a great experience. I thought I could carry this through online as well.

This course will feature me live painting and going over the basic tools in painting, from creating line art to painting. This means you'll also get to learn how to cell shade like me! :D And I will be setting assignments and will give video feedback as well. The course could run from 3-5 weeks (its a weekly thing) perhaps depending on what to cover. But yeah, for all you aspiring concept artist or people who'd want to go into advertising, design, and concept art.

For now this is just a plan we have, but its likely that we are going to start it in July/august. It could would cost around £350 - £700 (depending on the level) for the full training.

I'm just wondering who would be interested for now before i set up the course. But as I said, its still in the works :)
Hey guys, we are looking for a potential starter for our company :)
If you guys are seeking opportunities, I would strongly recommend this!

Such a great company to work for.

Just use me as reference if you want to apply :)

Look at what I work with :)

UPDATE! Expo and stuff!

Journal Entry: Wed Mar 14, 2012, 7:06 AM
Hey guys. I dunno how many of you guys go to the London Expo. Or even heard of it? Its practically like the SD Comic Con, if you guys have been, except this one is held in London.
Just a heads up, I may be going there with :iconninjatic: We might get a table as well, so if we are, I will be selling some signed prints and I could also do some sketch commissions when we're out there.
If so, make sure you bring a reference of your wanted character :)

On other news, the film I have been working on in China released an official English trailer! Im surprised that they used the story board I drew up. The opening scene with the seagulls was story boarded by me. I also designed them.
But yeah. here it is if you want to see it: [link]

That's all for now! Im slowly working through the commissions at the moment. But yeah, sketches are still open.
Also, I will also be posting some work that I do for the company here. So stay tuned!

NEWS : Back online!

Journal Entry: Fri Mar 9, 2012, 3:35 AM
Hey everyone,

Sorry for the late update! As I have said, I have been busy with moving stuff and the new job etc. that's why I haven't been so active.
But now I have my set up for my desk completed. Now I am able to do work.

Sorry commissioners for the delay. You have been really patient and I appreciate that.

For the news, considering sketch commissions, I will have to start watermarking them. First of all I apologize to commissioners who have ordered them. I wasn't aware that people were using them as pose reference. So guys, just a warning, these are commissioned pieces, which means they were paid for, only the commissioner is allowed to do what ever they want to them. So pose reference is now banned.
On the side note, a good website to use if you want to practice your poses or life drawing is www.posemaniacs.com.

Commission news, its a bit of a bad news, but I will be changing how I charge for commission now. I have been working professionally for different studios, and I charge on a daily rate estimate. Also, this is now a career for me. My commissions will open maybe next month, and my sketch commissions will remain opened for now.

That's all for the news, see you guys soon!

How To Deal With ART BLOCKS

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 21, 2011, 6:30 AM
Ok, if you guys are still wondering, this post may help you. Its just a way I go on about it.

First of all, what is an art block? Just like writer's block, an artist gets an art block. Its a state where you either; can't think of anything to draw, your drawings turn out crap, you're just not getting your drawings right, or just uninspired.

So how do I deal with it?

The very first thing you MUST do is to actually STOP DRAWING. This is your brain telling you to take a break.
If you force yourself out of an art block, it ALWAYS shows. It will look rushed or unthought of.

Second, is try and do something else NOT related to art/creativity... Go for a run, watch TV, read a book, play games, see friends etc.

Third; try and listen to music. Calm your brain and get rid of your thought process. Music is a way of simulation, sometimes you will get inspiration from it.
If you have an idea of what sort of thing you're after but just cant get it right in the end, this is where I think music helps. Especially if you have a theme in your head. Usually listening to the right genre of music that goes with the theme you're creating enhances your imagination and gets you in the right mood.

As an artist, I dont actually listen to music whilst I am working, it's a distraction majority of the time (this has been tested). But I only do it when I am completely walled.

Try going out and just look around for things to do. For me, normally going to town, and reading things inspire me. seeing something always sparks an idea in your head.
The common things that trigger my inspiration is something so minute, either a word, or a small piece of object.

When it comes to actually creating something, imagine what you want the end piece to look like. Without direction, it will fall apart.
I read a book with a great quote to success; "Begin with the end in mind".

But yeah, that's my two cents. I know the majority of the community here are artist, and somewhat relate. Hope it helps guys.
I deal with it most of the time, because my career is my hobby, and it could get a bit strainuous.

Good luck!

Hey guys, just wanted to introduce you to a fellow artist. We were in the same class in uni, he learned under my wing, and I am very proud to call him my student, my best in fact. He has created a new tumblr account just to post up some interesting animations or quirky art forms, and ofcourse he will be posting more of his work as well.

It's worth a follow if you are interested in motion graphics, animation, or design work or simply have a tumblr account.

That's all really, will be busy working on commissions and I will update my blog at some point, I have posted a few sketches there that I dont normally post here.

Hey guys,

Just a little update, I have been back home but I dont have my computer yet, I need to get it back from my boarding house. I will be getting all my stuff back some time on the first of August. So I will commence then. Also, I have been trying to look for the job, my friend offered me a place, but I didn't get in because it wasn't my field... HA!

Also little news, I went travelling during the time I was back home. My aunt came down from America and took me on a european tour. It was an amazing experience. Some hardships along the way, had to sleep at train stations at some point and always moving from place to place. Was away for about 9 days and we went to: Munich, Austria, Venice, Geneva, Annecy, Paris, and Berlin. I really liked walking around in Venice. the architecture is so beautiful!

Watched the last Harry Potter as well. Im sure its more fleshed out in the book, BUT I was kind of underwhelmed when I watched it. It wasn't as 'epic' as I thought it would be... Also, the ending was the most anti-climatic thing I've ever seen on a multi-million budget film! I can't believe they didnt just recruit new actors to play their older selves! Literally everyone in the cinema bursted out laughing when the first showed on screen! Ah well, its the end of it.

On a different note, anyone been watching Game of Thrones? I recommend it! It's really wicked. Kind of like a mixture of LOTR and The Godfather. The book is even better, but I suggest watching the series before the book. AAAAAnd, new air bender is coming outtttt! It looked sweeeeeeet!

But yeah, that's all for now. I can't wait to be fully back here for your entertainment guys!

Journal Entry: Sat Nov 6, 2010, 3:30 AM
Hey guys!

Sorry for the long wait, I have recently got the internet!!!! FINALLY!

So I will be posting regularly now (hopefully). Been really busy with production this year, I'm a production manager now and head of layouts for the film I'm working on, so its a tough time table. I'm on my last year now, so I'm piled up on work and I need to do really well on everything, because this is the only year that counts. But I will try and post stuff up when I can.

Commissioners, I will now be able to continue with you, deepest apologies for my lack of response recently. Barely had time with my computer.

But yeah, stay tuned peeps!

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 9, 2010, 10:23 PM

UPDATE AUG 18, 2011 - Price up - OPEN
=========================================

***FEW MORE SPOTS OPEN***

Hey guys.
Price change is now applied. The rate I will be charging here is the normal rate professionals charge. I will keep them cheaper for people here in DA ofcourse. I will now be charging on a daily rate. This could work out cheaper for some because it still includes everything (yes backgrounds as well).

I will be opening commissions now, but only for booking, I am still working on old ones that I have. And I am only allowing 2 characters max (1 commission for every commissioner only) commissions for now due to workload.

Regards and happy booking!
=========================================

Normal Commissions - OPEN
Sketch Commissions - CLOSED

Com-Whaaa?

First of all, you may ask; "what is a commission?". Simple answer to that is, a paid request. It's where you pay the artist to draw what ever you like, it can be OCs, Fan arts, etc...

Commissions and Info Rates

Hi, I will now open my commission status. The pieces will be in 200-300DPI [about 3000+ pixels] is the standard size for printing, you can make it to a poster if you like and it won't even lose quality. So yeah, check out my the rest of this journal, and I hope to hear from you soon ^^.

The Dos:

- anything you want me to draw
- 3 commissions at a time

I will pretty much take on anything you want to throw at me. As long as the piece doesn't convey any offensive messages. So yeah, I will do artistic nude, or yuri/yaoi.

The Don'ts:

- Deadlines
- Offensive Message

Deadlines are on the don'ts for a reason. If you rush me or any other artist in this case, it will be evident on the commissioned piece. It will look unplanned and quite mundane. So it's important to have patience and compromise with the artist. Avoid repetitive messaging asking about progression, if the artist makes progress, they WILL notify you as soon as they can.

Method of Payment

Sorry but I ONLY to accept Paypal. I will start the commission as soon as I receive a payment. Do not pay me unless I confirmed that I will do your commission. If I have finished a commission while you delay the payment, I will show you a proof image. I will only be a small copy, not the full resolution ^^. Payments that are received first will obviously have the handicap of getting their commission first. I will be working in a "1st come, 1st serve" basis ^^.

    *IMPORTANT*
If you are paying through PayPal, please please please state in the note what commission you booked and your NICKNAME in DA, not your real name, because i get confused who the payment came from. Ok?

How to book

1) Send me a note with the subject; 'Commission' including details.
2) If you have specific needs then please suggest.
3) I will confirm your commission via my journals, or the note sent.
4) You send the payment
5) The finished product will be sent to you as a JPEG file or a PSD with separate layers.

Rates:

Depending on the piece commissioned I will give you an estimate. It varies in time obviously. most pieces would maybe take 3/4 of the day. so i will charge 75% of the given price etc. Some pieces could take a day or two etc.

All General Commissions (line art, portraits, cel shade, soft shades, and layouts)

£170 per day Additional £40 for characters and props.

Painting (Illustration)
Daily Rate Estimation £210/day

What do I get for the price?
- It is priced that way because in the folder I send you, you get a sketch plan of the commission, the lineart, the inked lines, and a PSD containing all the separate layers in full resolution which can be modified and use for reprints.

PLEASE MAKE PAYMENTS VIA PAYPAL TO custodio.rogie@gmail.com

£10 Sketch

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 2, 2010, 2:10 AM

STATUS - OPEN

UDATE: COUPLE SKETCH COMMISSIONS

Couple sketches will cost £12 per character. This is due to the fact that interacting couples are more challenging to draw.

Hey guys!

I'm sure you all know what these sketch commissions are, but just to elaborate, They're quick sketches of anything [mainly characters] with out a back ground. It's going to be in pencil form. Note that sketch commissions are purely just sketch, they are absolute and NOT MADE FOR REWORKING. So that means if you want me to fix certain areas, I can not do that because that defies the whole point of sketch commissions. That would come under normal commissions.

So make sure you provide good reference, I strongly suggest images over descriptions.

Here's how to send money via paypal. Just click the 'send money' tab on the top, and it should be straight forward from there. Remember to set it to GBP if paying internationally.

PayPal add: custodio.rogie@gmail.com

So if any are interested, just send me a message entitled SKETCH COMMISSION. [Or click this commission journal, and follow the 'How to book' instructions: [link] ]. PS, It's very important that when sending your money, that you also include your DA alias... Because it gets very confusing when I start working on your pieces...

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon!
